The crescent-shaped lamba is among the most iconic jewelry form in tribal Indonesia. This lamba would have once been part of the heirloom of a royal lineage. Fashioned out of beaten gold, it displays a panoply of powerful imagery. Surrounding a central sun motif are warriors on horseback and vegetal tendrils reaching to the sky, designs that evoke the power and wealth of a royal clan. The “heat” from a lamba was considered so dangerous that it was worn by a surrogate of the king, using a favored slave or commoner.
